    Nancy drew is a fictional character in a mystery fiction series created by publisher Edward stratemeyer.

    the charater first appeared in the year 1930; the books have been ghostwritten by a number of authors and

    are published under the collective pseudonym carolyn keene.over the decades the character has evolved in

    response to changes in US culture and tastes. the books were extensively revised and shortened, begnning

    in 1959 , in part to lower printing costs and to eliminate racist stereotypes, with arguable success. many

    scholars[vague] agree that in the revision process, the heroine's orginal character waschanged to a less

    assertive and more feminine character. in the 1980s an older and more professional Nancy emerged in a

    new series, the Nancy drew mystery  stories series, begun in 1930, was ended and a new series, gril

    detective, was launched, in which the title cherecter have also evolved over time to reflect the nancy

   drew type in contemporary terms. the cheracter has proved continuously popular worlwide: at least 80 million

    copies of the books have been sold, and the books have been transulated intoover 45languages. Nancy drew

    has featurd in five films, two television shows, and a number of popular computer games;she also appears

    in a variety of merchandise sold over the wold.

  Helen and her great aunt rosemary ask nancy drew to slove a mystery at her great-grandmother's home, twin  elms, a ststely colonial mansion in nearby cliffwood. Odd things, beyond the eccentricities of the elderly

     Miss flora, are happening. in the meantime, nancy's father is being threatened by crooked layer nathan gomber,

     who feels carson, as attorney for the railroad, cheayed property owners near a new railroad bridge. after church,

    and must swim to safty to escape a runaway truck at the site.


          Nancy and helen go to stay at twin elms while carson goes to chicago to find wharton. the girls first day,

    a chandelier sways by itself. Miss flora is missing items, music comes out of nowhere, and a gorilla is seen peering

    in a window. nancy and helen expore more about the history of the houde and grounds. after nancy confers with the

    local chif of police, an officer named patrick is assigned to partol the grounds his first capture, nancy! nathan gomber harasses Miss flora and rosemary to sell their property repeatedly.

   carson fails to arrive, worrying nanacy.all four women did period costumes for an  evening of fun. meanwhile, she
  
    tracks down a newspaper discovered near the twin elms estate. unfortunately, this lead is delayed when the "twin" estate,
  
    riverside manor, which is for sale. the girls also discover a hidden  "listening post," in a secret room adjacent
  
    to the kitchen.

     A  realtor gives nancy the key to riverside manor,even though it has been sold.nathan gomber owns riverview manor.

    she and helen explore the twin  property, and nancy discoves ahadden panel,falling down a hidden staircase.

    she helen explore a tunnel leading  back  to another staircase--- and run in to none other than willine wharton!

    the girl reveal the tunnel and the steircases to miss flora and aunt rosemary.gomber is apprehended,and leads police

     to a hidden room in the tunnel ,where carson drew is kept prisoner.
